~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us!~
I’ve been carting my big, bulky, yellow barn sweater around with me, working on the first sleeve. It’s more than halfway finished. I want to finish! But I’m also lured by other more exciting projects. We’ll see if I can persevere!
I’ve had a hard time shifting into Advent. I think mainly it’s that I’ve been sick, haven’t had the energy to pull boxes down, and do the clearing and cleaning I like to do in the early days of Advent. The house is a mess, the dryer was broken for over a week, and we’re drowning in laundry. Yesterday I made a start, and we have nativities out, baby Jesus hidden. I’m trying to catch up on Elizabeth’s highly anticipated Advent ebook. I think it will get me motivated and moving. I switched No Life for a Lady out for The Reed of God, more appropriate for the season. I thought I read it all last year, but according to my bookmark, I only made it halfway. This year, I’ll finish.

I’m so glad you mentioned The Reed of God. It’s on my shelf but I had forgotten about it. I needed something new to read!

Looks like you decided to knit your sleeves in the round on dpns? I’m interested in how that turns out. I did mine according to the directions–flat–then seamed them together. But I hate seaming and also had one sleeve seam come loose when blocking. I’m thinking the next barn sweater I will do the sleeves on dpns and just try hard not to have ladders.

Hi Ginny. I came across to your blog from Punkin’ Patch. I don’t knit at the moment as it’s mid-summer and too hot! I had several knitting projects during winter, mainly for the oldies in our local retirement center and one large one knitting fingerless gloves for a local school. I would love to follow your blog but cannot find a link to do so? As for reading: I love that too. Recently completed The Jane Austen Marriage Manual by Kim Izzo, and The Round Tower by Catherine Cookson. In between I’m reading How to make a living as a Writer; Write Good or Die; Maeve Binchy’s Writers’ Club and The Monkey’s Paw and other stories WW Jacobs. Enjoy the rest of your day. Jo

Hi Ginny, I too am reading/listening (audiobook) to The Reed of God as I knit in the evening. I pray you feel better soon. A hard time of hear to be under the weather, but can be an important part of Advent as Carol Houselander tells us.
Blessings on you and your family!

I’ve been sick, too, Ginny — since the week of Thanksgiving, and now my daughter has it. It’s a bad cold with a lingering cough that just wears you out. She was at the doctor yesterday and he wrote me a prescription! I have been too sick to even make it to Mass. Wish I could have a do-over on Advent! Hope you’re feeling better soon.
