~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us!~
I am almost finished with Bea’s cape! I really hope it fits well. I do think that a poncho-type cape will be more practical and wearable for her than a shawl (she asked for a blue shawl.) I’ve been able to mostly keep it a secret, though she has figured out that I am indeed knitting her something blue.
I got about 150 pages into The Big Rock Candy Mountain and decided that it was too much of a downer, and didn’t want to read another 450 potentially depressing pages. I loved Stegner’s Angle of Repose, and enjoyed Crossing to Safety, but this one is not for me right now. Instead I am reading something outside my usual reading realm. A friend of mine recommended The Bees a couple of months ago, and then Dona mentioned it in a comment recently, offering to send me her copy! So now I have it, and I have read the first couple of chapters. The story is told from the perspective of a honeybee worker, and it has a sort of sci-fi feel to it. We’ll see if I can stick with it! I have been having a hard time staying focused on books lately. So far, this one is intriguing.

Hello Ginny,
do you know the book “The Bee Who Spoke: The Wonderful World of Belle and the Bee”…… ? Perhaps for Larkspur or Bea…. 😉 I bought it for Christmas for our kids. I love it.
Beatrix will love her poncho. It´s a great idea!!!!!!
Best regards
Conny

I feel the same about shawls and ponchos.
Also like that you stopped a book partway through. I’ve done that so many times over the years and always feel ‘guilty’ about it. For some reason there is the idea that if you start a book you need to finish it.

What a lovely cape.

Ginny, the cape is a gorgeous blue! Your book sounds interesting. I’m trying to imagine beekeepers in a scifi sort of way. Have a lovely evening!

Big Rock Candy Mountain took me a year because I put it down for the same reason– it was sort of a downer. But it picks up, and by the time I finshed it I absolutely loved it.

That is what I needed to hear! I won’t abandon it all together then. Thank you for sharing!!

I think my mom would like that book. I’ll have to keep it in mind for Christmas.

A poncho! What a great idea! And one that I am ashamed I haven’t ever thought of for my kiddos…that would certainly be better than a shawl that seems to fall off my girl easily.

What gorgeous texture on that cape! Love it!

Hi Ginny! Bea’s cape/poncho is going to be so cute on her. I just read a book you would LOVE. Island in the World by Michael D. O’Brien. He’s a Catholic writer and this novel is BEAUTIFUL. Have you read it?
Tracey says
I may have to knit a cape for Emerson, I think she would like one and I really do admire the one you are making for Bea.
I’m having a hard time with books myself, I blame it on the time change.
