~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I made it to the border of my Settler Shawl! It has a fun stitch pattern that I’ve never tried before. I can’t wait to get this finished and see how the finished shawl looks!
I’m barely reading at all lately, but have been sneaking in little bits of Rachel Balducci‘s Raising Boys Is a Full-Contact Sport (This version doesn’t seem to be in print, but the same book under a different title is available here.) It’s a fun read, short essays on raising boys, humorous and not at all complain-y. I bought the book this summer after hearing Rachel speak at a conference. She helped me to let go of some things, namely thinking I needed to do x, y, or z, because “better” moms do those things, etc. and feel more confident about my own style of parenting. I approached her after her talk all silly and gushy saying something along the lines of, “I think that hearing you speak is the real reason I was supposed to be at this conference.” She handled my gushing very graciously. 🙂

Hi Ginny,
I’ve been enjoying your Yarn Along posts & Small Things for a little while now – from Australia. Now I’m living for 12 months in the U.S.!!
I know you are very busy but any chance you can share the pattern or the link for the green ribbed hat you were knitting for Jonny? I would like to make it for one of my sons to replace the one he lost?
Thanks,
Karin
PS as well as the Biddulph book have you heard of Celia Lashie He’ll Be Ok re raising boys? Also very mother/parenting affirming but helpful in understanding teenage boys.

I have that book under the other title. I read it right before getting pregnant with boy twins (and they have an older brother) so I sometimes feel a little (jokingly) superstitious that it had something to do with that! 😉

Gorgeous yarn. I’ve got to get my hands on that book! 🙂

I really like the colours in your Settler Shawl, and have checked out the pattern and added it to my Revelry queue. I’m working on a Summer Flies shawl right now.
So glad to read your neighbours were a lovely family and that all the children are becoming friends.

your shawl is coming along beautifully, and although I’m not a mum that book sounds fascinating 🙂 jenny xx

Your shawl is gorgeous.

Raising boys is definitely an adventure and just remember, never compare yourself to what others are doing, HE made each of us unique and doesn’t give us more than we can handle. 🙂
Love the shawl and can’t wait to see it either.
