~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting!) and reading right now. Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I think I’ve had the best knitting week that I’ve had in a very long time. I finished my sister’s shawl, and made progress on my Gotland shawl. My boys totally tease me for knitting so many shawls, but this latest one is such a good reminder to me of why I enjoy knitting them, especially lace ones. I love the rhythm of lace knitting itself, and then there is immense satisfaction in coloring in each line on the chart as I complete it. This project is especially fun because I won’t really know what it’s going to look like until I finish it and block it. The lace isn’t opened out at all, and this yarn is new to me, so I don’t know how it’s going to behave after a soak. I also joined a mystery knit along this week and that has me motivated to finish this shawl up before the first clue is released on May 20th! So much knitting excitement for me right now!
I decided not to continue reading Shadows of the Workhouse. Instead I picked up My Family and Other Animals, a book that was recommended for my Happy Reading List. It’s definitely a happy book! Perfect warm weather reading.

Sometimes the knitting is not the need for an item, but the peace and joy the process brings. Your shawl is beautiful.

So glad to see you’ve discovered Gerald Durrell! He entertained me for many hours in my childhood and reinforced my interest in nature and travel. I recently came across an audio book of one of his few titles I hadn’t read – I got some strange looks laughing to myself with my headphones on! 😛
My bf also teases me when I start another shawl – I have explain that I don’t yet have one of this particular size, in this colour, of this new shape, and obviously I must remedy this…

I like knitting lace for all the same reasons. A while back you were asking for a list of books (which I wrote down to find for my kindle) that were “happy” I wanted to add The Stone Gap that I’m currently reading that I read before and there are four others in the series. Quite a happy read.

It’s nice to hear that you had a good knitting week, those are some of the best.
I love lace knitting too, and watching a piece unfold as it’s blocked is thrilling.
