Butterbean Organics {giveaway!}

Today’s giveaway is from my close friend, Summer, and her business, Butterbean Organics! I have shared her story here before, and always love having her here! My family uses her sunscreens and I absolutely love them. They are perfect for even my children with the most sensitive skin. Summer has worked very hard to provide an effective and safe sunscreen made with only the very best ingredients!

From Summer

Hi there! Thank you Ginny for giving Butterbean the opportunity to share about our skin care products!

Butterbean Organics was inspired by a mama of 5 who wanted to make skin care products that were healthy for people and the planet. Butterbean’s line of sunscreen, bug spray, and lip balm uses certified organic ingredients that will moisturize and protect even the most sensitive skin.

Butterbean sunscreens have a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30, 80 minutes of water-resistance, and provide broad spectrum protection from UVA/UVB rays. Pure mineral zinc oxide is un-coated and non-nano particle size. Check out Butterbean’s number “1” rating on the Environmental Working Group! Each of our sunscreens are third party tested to ensure quality and care. They are reef safe and biodegradable.

The Original sunscreen is a cream that is perfect for faces and shoulders. We also love this one for our little people because it has the highest percentage of certified organic coconut oil and shea butter. The fragrance is derived entirely from these virgin oils and butters. The local beeswax adds a touch of sweetness that our customers rave about. The pleasant subtle aroma smells good enough to eat!

Simple Sunscreen is our workhorse. It is easy to apply and gets the job done! In addition to coconut oil, Simple sunscreen uses Certified Organic Olive, Sunflower, and Jojoba oils. Silky smooth organic goodness protects the skin from the harmful rays of the sun.

Our sport stick is a mover and a shaker. Packaged in a compostable tube it our most eco-friendly option. This one is easy to stick in a back pocket for park days, beach days and sporting events. This non-whitening sunscreen is a force to be reckoned with.

Bug-a-boo bug spray is better than ever! We use 26% Neem oil and 24% certified organic essential oils to pack a punch to pesky bugs. Our bug spray is soy, gluten, Deet and chemical free.

Coconut oil is renowned for its healing benefits. Our lip balms are full of antioxidants and vitamins that will bring calming relief to lips. This smooth and soothing formula will quickly become a go-to for healthy happy lips!

What makes Butterbean unique as a company is the care we put into each of our products. We handpick only the very best ingredients that are fair trade, certified organic, and local (wherever we can). We use unrefined oils many of which are food grade! Our packaging choices are environmentally friendly and easily recycled. You can find my family hanging out in our basement packing orders together. With the 7 of us we can get quite an assembly line together (well, minus the baby)! Thank you for supporting small business!

For today’s giveaway, Butterbean is offering one winner a 4oz Simple sunscreen, a 3oz original sunscreen, and a lip balm.  In addition, Summer is offering 10% off your order with the coupon code smallthings10 through June 5th.

Thanks, Butterbean!

Silas is four!

All photos by Lori Elizabeth

We don’t typically have big birthday parties, but this year Silas’ birthday fell on Memorial Day, so it seemed like a good idea, and it was!  We all had such a good time, and I think Silas felt pretty special having such a large crowd sing him “Happy Birthday.”  It’s funny because my older boys, even at a young age, hated having “Happy Birthday” sung to them, and would crawl under the table.  Silas had too much help (Beatrix!) blowing out his candles the first time, and insisted on having them re-lit for another go. But then, before he would blow them out, he asked that we all sing to him one more time.

Despite having about fifty people at our house, I hardly had any clean-up to do afterwards because I have the sweetest most helpful friends.  I thought early on that I wouldn’t have pictures from the celebration, because I really just wanted to hang out and not worry about carrying my camera around.  My friend Lori, as she so often does, did a beautiful job taking on that role for me.  I’m so grateful to have her photos to document the day.

It was a very good fourth birthday for Silas.  But goodness, how can that baby be four, already?

p.s.  Ya’ll just let me know if you want me to do a tutorial on how to beautifully frost a cake… (hee hee).
