~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading (though not at the same time!), and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
Well, we are just about recovered here, but I am still very tired. Getting sick makes one awfully thankful for good health, doesn’t it? Last night I did my best to knit a few rows while watching Downton Abbey. I think I’ll have to rewatch the episode later this week, though. I’m almost finished with the cast on for Simmer Dim, and am really looking forward to the rest of the project. This shawl is for a friend, one who loves blue. I’ve been doing a good bit of reading this past week, and am almost finished with Louisa May Alcott’s An Old Fashioned Girl. It’s a sweet, light story, one I’ve enjoyed. It didn’t make it into my picture; I was trying to show you the light snow we got last night instead. It’s just a dusting, so the kids will be disappointed. Maybe next time we’ll get more.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but I didn’t see it in my scan through — what yarn is this? It (and the shawl as well) are so beautiful!! God bless you

My 11 year old granddaughter and I taught ourselves to knit last spring. I wanted to knit dishcloths like the ones my sister gave me years ago which I have finally used up and I also wanted to share that learning experience with Shelby. Having knit nearly 70 of the granny dishcloths since then, I now refer to myself as “a one-knit wonder” but maybe your blog will inspire to leave this comfort zone. By the way, I only have two of those dishcloths for my own use because all of my friends and family have asked for them!

I’m glad you are all on the mend. I can only imagine how tired you must feel. I always remember my mom saying,
“Mothers just aren’t allowed to be sick.” And it’s so true. No matter how bad you’re feeling, you’re still the one that has to nurse everyone else.
I haven’t read that particular Alcott, to the best of my memory, but, I think I’ll download that. Thanks for sharing.
I’m crocheting the same afghan I’ve been working on since last spring. I’m not letting myself start anything else until I’m finished with that.

I would love to just watch you knit, Ginny. I would never aim to try something that delicate as what I see on your blogs. Thank you for everything you share.
I don’t know how you get it all done everyday. Glad you are feeling better 🙂
Love Bonnie

I am new to this Yarn Along and returning to blogging after over a years absence. I happy to see all the yarn projects and book recommendations, and looking forward to more.

Oh that is so beautiful! I love it. I started a shawl on circular needles and kept knitting it together! Now it is so messed up that I can’t fix it. Glad you are all feeling better.

I just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation of An Old Fashioned Girl. I had just got through reading Little Women and was amazed at how much I had missed or forgotten since I had read it years ago. Louisa May Alcott’s books are wonderful for cold winter days.

I love that deep blue. I’m going to cast on a cowl for my husband and I can’t decide between a deep navy blue like that or a deep hunter green…or to go professional and have a nice heather gray that won’t stand out when he has to be suited up. Although that’s maybe once a month. I didn’t get any knitting done this week at all. I got stuck in a row on the sweater. Does anyone know of a good video for M1R, M1L? I can find pictures but not video, and I’m definitely missing something.
Ginny says
Hi Joy! M1R http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/make-1-right-english and M1L http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/make-1-left-english If you are a continental knitter (hold the working yarn in your left hand rather than your right), the same site has videos for M1R and M1L that way too.
Joy says
Oh how wonderful! This just proves that the all-knowing Google doesn’t always find everything. Thank you so much!

Beautiful picture, Ginny. You continue to inspire me, as a photographer (knitter, mother, etc. I won’t go on because I don’t want to make you feel funny). I hope you all recover fully soon, and find rhythm again. I have not heard of that book by Alcott. I’m going to have to check it out!
