~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading (though not at the same time!), and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
We got in late last night from a long trip to Georgia to visit our family, so I am running a bit late this morning!
My sister Abby and I are both reading Unwrapping the Greatest Gift with our children in the days leading up to Christmas this year, and I had the opportunity to read the entry for December 1st to all of our children together. It was such a special way to begin this Advent season. This morning I will read the entry for December 2nd, having gotten in too late last night for reading, and we will close the day with December 3rd’s. It makes me happy to know that my sister and her family will be reading the same words tonight to her children.
I did lots of knitting on our trip, including a little pair of socks for Job, his St. Nicholas day gift. I knit that second sock all the way home yesterday. I just need to graft the toe. The yarn is Koigu KPPPM though I can’t find the band and don’t know the colorway. I chose it because it reminds me of autumn. The pattern is Toddler Socks from Creating a Family Home. I’ll try to get my notes up on Ravelry tonight. The only change I made intentionally was to extend the ribbing on the instep to the beginning of the toe decreases.
Are any of you frantically knitting gifts yet?

Loving those dinky little socks!

This comment doesn’t have anything to do with knitting, except maybe knitting up a torn heart. When I’m having a lousy day (and I feel as though I’ve had quite a few of late), I come to your blog and I can put things into perspective. Thank you. I bet you didn’t know how God would use this blog when you started it, but it brings lots of things, good things, to lots of people.

Thank you Shannon, I really appreciate your words.

I am happy to report that the 2 scarves I intended to crochet for gifts this year are finished and ready to be wrapped! I also thrifted some plates and glassware and glued them together to make cookie servers (or cheese & cracker servers) for gifts. I have one more gift to make, a Dollar Tree craft idea from Pinterest!
Those socks are Super Cute Ginny! I wish I could knit!

I’m just getting back into knitting after taking a long break, so no handmade gifts from me this year. Love the colors in those socks!

I am reading Ann Voskamp’s book “The Greatest Gift” this Advent. I would love to read through “Unwrapping the Greatest Gift” with my kids next year. Please let us know how you like it! *hugs* 🙂

St. Nicholas socks are a tradition here and I have just started them (for my toddler).
For Christmas there will be no knitted gifts, oh, I’m so slow and behind all plans. I need to get myself some warming things but others always seem more important. My dad just asked me to make him socks. This is an honour, so how could I wait to cast on… oh, maybe Christmas gift?
Love the coloured yarn you have. My stash is so boring – but I will stick to it!

I am knitting a “nitid buney” for my spelling challenged son. A sweater with your lovely Sunday Sweater pattern for my 4 yo. She picked the pattern herself! I also need knit a mouse for my 10 yr. old, who very sweetly told me it was ok if it was not done by Christmas!
Johanna says
I’m finishing up my niece’s sweater (I make her one every Christmas), and I made a cowl for my sister-in-law. Pretty soon here (after the sweater is finished) I’m going to knit/crochet some simple ornaments to use as package tie-ons, and I *might* make my step-father a pair of mittens.
Other than that, I’m buying gifts this year. There hasn’t been time to get as much done as I’d like. So another sister-in-law (who is just starting to learn crochet) is getting a set of hooks, a pattern book, and yarn in a variety of fibers from my boyfriend and I. Other people are getting cook books, cast-iron pans, and tools. Stuff for creating rather than consuming.
Dana says
those all sound like wonderful gifts Johanna!

I’ve just learned the hard truth that having anything commissioned means it will never get done. And that promising knits should never happen if you might become pregnant when those knits are “due.” Morning sickness and baby knits do not mix. 🙁

Yes! The crochet hook has not stopped! Lots of little goodies for our little ones and nieces! 🙂

I am frantically knitting a pair of gloves & a hat to send off as soon as I can. I am also knitting my baby his stocking & my husband needs me to make him one too. His old one was not very lovely! It calms me though- so the frantic part isn’t so bad. :-). Now gift buying causes me stress.

We are reading that to our children here this month too. It is a breathtaking book!
Your socks are darling and yes oh yes, frantic gift knitting has commenced!
Elizabeth says
that is so lovely, the socks but more than that reading the same book to your children as her sister to her’s. what a blessing! I had to give up on the Christmas ornaments I wanted to make… but I am baking lots of cookies for St. Nicholas day! (we are on the old calendar which means St. Nicholas day is dec 19th) 🙂 So glad that we are in Advent! May God help all knitters and Mothers this Advent. 🙂

Dear Ginny,
such a sweet thought – your two families reading the same story every evening!
And how lovely you got some knitting time while travelling! I did the same and while telling stories of Pippi Longstocking (my daughters favorite heroine lately), I’ve managed to knit half of a not so small baby cardigan 😉

Such cute wee socks Ginny. I hope you had a great visit in Georgia and a wonderful time visiting with your sister.

I need to be frantically knitting gifts, yes! Lovely Koigu, one of my favorite yarns. Little Job will be so comfy & warm.
I’ve been searching online for a daily Advent devotional to use with my children–now I can stop searching. Thanks, Ginny! Glad your trip was a safe one.
