~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I’ve worked on clue 5B of my Follow Your Arrow shawl all week, and I am on row 99. That is row 99 of 661. The knitting is fun, but it’s pay attention knitting, so that means I can only work on it at night. This may take me awhile.
I just started reading The Beekeeper’s Apprentice. I don’t typically read mystery novels, and I can’t remember how I first came across this one. The title and cover must have appealed to me. My oldest son, Seth, is a big fan of Sherlock Holmes and this book is the first in a series featuring him, and a teenaged sidekick named Mary Russell. If the cover and title weren’t enough, the first sentence on the back of the book would have sucked me in, “In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees….” It goes on to use words and phrases such as “brilliant deductions,” “disguises,” and “dangers.” It’s all so interesting I couldn’t resist.

The book sounds interesting, and your shawl is coming up beautiful.
I felt into the reading of Miss Peregrine’s home for Peculiar Children series, they got trapped, could not put them down.

Keep going with Clue 5B. I was rather despairing partway through, but you do get to the end in the end! Love the colour.

The Mary Russell series is WONDERFUL. Have read them all. Hope you enjoy it. Your shawl is beautiful, and your blog is one of the very few I have viewed that I keep up with every day. I so enjoy seeing your photos and adorable children.

Pay attention knitting is the best kind in my book, but as you say, it takes forever to finish anything. This shawl is looking lovely already though 🙂

I’m reading my first beekeeping guide, simple ‘the A to bee’ realising how little I know about this amazing creature.

That book is one I remember very fondly – the version pictured is a new commemorative edition … celebrating 20 years since it’s original publication – wow! It may be time for me to re-read it – I believe I’ve devoured everything else by the author. 🙂

hee hee, i remember seeing that 661 row count. it goes very quickly tho, the rows grow shorter and shorter as you go. can’t wait to see you wearing this one.

Could you discuss the age appropriateness of the book?

Your shawl looks very pretty, lovely colour. Thank you for hosting.

What is the age appropriateness of the book? Sounds good!

Hi Ginny,
Glad to find someone else who is still knitting away on clue 5b. I should have finished mine last week, but ran out of yarn 3 repeats from the end. I’ve ripped two thirds of it back and I’m adding contrast repeats. I am so done with this pattern!

No matter how long it takes that shawl is coming along beautifully.

I’m a very simple knitter…plain scarves and the occasional hat. But I love to read and I couldn’t help commenting that Bee Keeper’s Apprentice is one of my very favorite books. I first read it 20 years ago or so and loved it. Now it’s a favorite re-read if I want something familiar. I’ve read a couple of the sequels and liked them, but not as well as the first. Happy reading!

Hi Ginny,
I am not a knitter but have greatly benefitted from many of your book suggestions – especially for my 11 yo son who is an avid reader. So, thank you! This looks like a book that could be ok for a mature 11 yo to read. Would you agree so far?
Thank you,
Maggie

My friend, who is doing the same clue 5 as you are, just ripped hers out & started again. (Just the clue 5 part!) I did the other one. I was intrigued by that one but I think I’m having more fun watching others’ progress on it than I would have if I’d tried to knit it! xo

Lovely knitting!
That book is wonderful! It is on my “read it once per year” list. The whole series is great actually. Easy to read, interesting, and fun. There are 13 so far with a 14th due to be published in 2015. Enjoy!

Pay attention knitting – you are such an intrepid knitter! I simply cannot do any significant amount of that kind of knitting. Small amounts of it are fine; I can usually find quiet moments to get those trickier sections done. But a whole project of it? Wow! Your work is beautiful.

looks like a very good read to me! We love sherlock here in any form and I think that would be a book for my shelf. Have fun with your shawl knitting 🙂

Your shawl is beautiful, the yarn is absolutely stunning. I’m new to the Yarn Along, thanks for taking the time to run it.
