~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I really meant to finish those baby pants before starting another project, but I got distracted by some pretty yarn and decided to cast on a new project with it right away. Sometimes I think that’s the best thing to do. Yarn that I go crazy over at first, left to sit on a shelf for too long, loses its appeal. I think that must be part of the whole “stash” thing. Stash yarn has a tendency to become either too precious or too boring.
So I cast on another baby gown. This time in a beautiful blue-gray colorway from Orange Flower Yarn called Vega. I really didn’t mean to buy it, but I was having a bad day and it happened to be on sale at the moment….
I’m still reading Hannah Coulter, but I’ve also been pulling my old standby books on childbirth down off the shelf this week: Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year, Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth, and Herbal Healing for Women. I do a combination of reading through, reminding myself of this or that, while simultaneously trying not to think too much about it all so I don’t get nervous. Because yes, I still get nervous about having babies and this one’s coming soon.

We’re on the same wavelength! I bought some Orange Flower yarn last week, have all of the same books out except the bottom one, and am currently ignoring some balloon baby pants (Ze Tiny Pants pattern) because I wanted to knit up a pretty Lucy Hat with some new madelinetosh. You are WAY ahead of me on the baby knits though. I don’t have a single thing finished for this baby and EDD is Christmas Eve.

Your scarf is pretty- and so are you! I can’t wait to hear that your little one is in your arms. (And to hear what you will name him) Thanks again for sharing so much of your life with us.

“Spiritual Midwifery”, by Ina May…bought it when it first came out (I didn’t even HAVE children at that time!!!) and it’s still one of my favorite books ever!
Sylvia says
We live near THE FARM in TN where Ina May lived and taught her midwifery classes. In fact, I drove by THE FARM a few weeks ago with my daughter and granddaughter just to reminisce, and noticed that she has written more books since the days when I was having babies. I bought one of her first childbirth books back in the 70’s.

That yarn looks so soft! And I thought I would start the Hannah Coulter book, but I think it’s part of a series, so I need to find out which one is first.

Ginnie, thanks for hosting. I’ve just returned from my neighborhood book store with a children’s book by Shirley Hughes. She is my absolute favorite children’s author and illustrator. I have all of them, I think. I read them till they were worn out to my daughter when she was little. She is in college now, but I still purchase them for a future grandchild!
Best,
Sheila

I can’t get over how quickly you knit! That’s some progress! I love the color — perfect for a baby boy. I’ll be back later with a link if the sun ever comes from behind all those clouds!

I am reading Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth right now too. 3rd trimester always makes me antsy and that book makes me much calmer as I prepare for birth.
Jess says
I had 5 home births and went into them all a bit nervous. The last 3 births I used Peace and Calming and Valor essential oils, seemed to help a lot. Also had a couple verses written out that comforted me and/ or strengthened me and had my husband read them to me as I requested. Birth is so beautiful….I am very excited for you.

The “stash thing”, I am so familiar with that:)
Thanks for Yarn Along!

Pretty yarn color. I’ve read Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth…it’s one of my favorite books about birth.
Susan @ Dragonfly Dreams says
That is so true about stash yarn. I’m trying to work through what I’ve got before I buy anything new, but then, inevitably, I have a bad day and click “purchase now”. If things don’t get better around here soon, I’m going to need a new closet. : ) Seeing that pile of books on childbearing made me smile. It won’t be long now! ♥

I have a feeling you’ll be done knitting in no time at all 🙂 Love the pile of books!
