Over the weekend I nervously updated my Sunday Sweater pattern over on Ravelry, and it now includes sizes 8 and 10. I knit the size 8 for Larkspur to wear next fall and winter, and while it’s a little big on her right now, I think it will fit perfectly in a few months. This sweater was knit in Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage in the fragrant colorway. I alternated skeins throughout, and while that wasn’t fun, it was worth it for the end result. Larkspur insisted that I use the last three purpleheart buttons that I had left over from her other Sunday Sweater.
It was just cool enough on Big Meadow last week that I was able to convince Larkspur to let me take a few pictures. In fact, she requested the sweater as soon as the temperature started to drop a bit. It’s folded and packed away now, and will make it’s next appearance in the fall!
After submitting the pattern update over the weekend, and requesting that Ravelry notify all the people who have purchased the pattern previously of the update, I got a few thank you notes in my email box from knitters happy for the larger sizes. I appreciated those notes so much! Thank you for all the encouragement and support for my little pattern!
You can purchase my Sunday Sweater pattern on Ravelry of course, and through this link if you’re not on Ravelry: buy now.

Hi Ginny,
I love this sweater so much. It has such a sweet vintage look/feel — a little like a cardi from one of Eloise Wilkins’ lovely illustrations. I’m on my second one now — two more granddaughters to go.
I was watching “Anne of Green Gables” (for the umpteenth time) yesterday while knitting, and noticed Anne wearing a sweet blue cardigan that reminds me a little of your Sunday Sweater. I wonder if you’re considering making it available in adult sizes – I’d be first in line to buy the pattern — a good project to fill all that spare time you’ve got these days ^v^.
Blessings,
G

You will garden! 🙂 I remember how distressed I was, and now I’m back to running, gardening, etc. I just heard from Eve, so sorry I couldn’t get it over sooner, she said she saw you yesterday. My husband will drop it by this afternoon, as he has the car for work. Hope it will help!

I was surprised to get a notice for free update for sizes 8 and 10. Thank you so much. Have the perfect young lady in mind for trying the upsized pattern….maybe even in pink colorway. Your daughter is so pretty in pink!

Ginny that is just STUNNING. I love the yarn you have used – that has to be one of the prettiest little cardi’s I have seen in a long time.

I was so excited to get the message on Ravelry since I had just purchased the pattern and am knitting one for my almost 4 year old Lyddie. I was so excited to report to my husband that the $6 for the pattern was going to stretch even further since I can use the pattern so long. \ Truly loving the pattern and as I knit further into the project, have a feeling my girls will now always have a Sunday Sweater in each of their drawers for functional, cozy wear that is beautiful!

Beautiful sweater. Love the colors and pattern. I admire those that are able to do that and hope one day I can do more then simple basic crochet/knitting projects. Thanks for the inspiration!

It’s already in my queue and I can’t wait to cast on (after finishing up a bunch of birthday and baby shower projects)! I’ve been in love with your Sunday Sweater for awhile now. My daughter turns 2 next week so I won’t need the update for a long time but I’m sure I’ll be glad to have it in the future!
Sara says
This is such a perfect sweater! It makes me want to practice knitting more in hopes that I may actually be able to knit one someday. Larkspur looks beautiful wearing it in the meadow.

I don’t know how I never realized but I didn’t know you were a designer. I’m adding this pattern to my queue. It’s super cute!

That sweater is beautiful! You’re so talented, Ginny! Seeing all these pictures of your beautiful knits has inspired me to finally taking knitting lessons! (I used to crochet a little bit, but want to try knitting)

The sweater is beautiful. I recently took up knitting again – never that serious before – but working on my first afghan. Looking forward to being able to make something so nice!
Having been pregnant through the summer and experienced some swelling in the ankles as a result – nothing like your travails – I hope things cool off a bit to make you more comfortable!

I know this is a rookie question, but why alternate skeins? I’m hoping to make this next after I finish the cowl for my other daughter. It’s so pretty, I can’t wait to start it.
Erin says
When there is some variation in yarn color (both really distinct color changes and more subtle ones like in the yarn used above), you can have pooling, where colors or light/dark spots line up. Some people love it, some people hate it. A way to avoid it is to alternate skeins while knitting. Additionally, with hand dyed yarn, there can be a decent variation between skeins. If you knit with just one skein and later switch to one that is a slightly different shade or color, its more obvious than if you mix them up.
Ginny says
Thanks for answering this Erin (far better than I would have!!)

I just finished knitting a Sunday sweater for my 6 year old. Totally loved knitting it and adore the finished sweater so I was extremely excited and grateful to see the updated sizes on Ravelry over the weekend! Thank you so much. I will be knitting this again. I still need to get my project up on Ravelry, if the 6 year old will ever cooperate for photos (she loves the sweater, posing not so much).

I love the sweater, and the “pink” is scrumptious – P.S. I LOVE the purple heart buttons from WMR! Thank you for always posting such beautiful pictures of your adorable children, and for the always interesting blog posts.

That is a beautiful sweater. I wish I had the knitting skills that you have. Now since arthritis has sit in I no longer knit so I enjoy looking at your knitting.
Olivia says
It is very generous of you to share the larger sizes with us without having to purchase them separately. It’s a beautiful pattern!
Rachel Wolf says
Oh how lovely! I hesitated on knitting one up for Lupine because the largest size seemed too small for her. Now I can cast on an 8! xo

Lovely sweater – congrats on a successful pattern 🙂
Elizabeth says

What beautiful pictures! Larkspur looks so pretty in her new sweater. Your Fragrant has some tan in it, and mine has more cream. I love the way Madelinetosh yarn knits up. Thank-you for sharing!
P.S. I got the update! Thanks for adding it to the original pattern rather than creating a separate one.
Brooke says
It is lovely. I love patterns that go up to bigger child sizes. Bravo!
