One of Beatrix’s favorite phrases is “I don’t know what to do!” I heard that a lot yesterday. She finally headed upstairs and played quietly long enough for me to finish math lessons. When she came back downstairs she looked like this, and she was quite pleased with herself.
Oh, Beatrix.
p.s. I have a chance of making it into the top six in the The Homies awards if you guys would please go vote for Small Things. Signing up to vote only requires you to enter your name and email address. It’s really easy and every vote counts. Voting ends tonight at midnight EST. Please?

I already voted yesterday Ginny. Great seeing you!:)
Michele says
Rhiannon, 11, still prefers her own body as a canvas. It certainly is convenient, as it’s always available.
Linda says
I love it! I have a similiar photo of my 23 year old daugther in a much larger wig of the same kind. It’s my favorite photo of her. That is so much fun.
Janine says
Voted 🙂 Have always wondered if Beatrix gets in trouble for drawing on her face. Have to admit my kids would have been in massive trouble if they had continually none this.
Janine says
*done this.
Martha says
How exciting! Your blog is hands-down my favorite, so I voted for you earlier today, which brought your total to 137. I just checked and you are in 2nd place!
Sara McD says
THIS is why I keep coming back. 🙂 She makes my smile every time. I have a 5-year-old boy who is a LOT like Beatrix. I think I just feel good knowing there are more like him.
Brenda says
My girls would do this same thing…..glad to see that it’s ‘common’!
Just voted for you….good luck!
Amy says
Voted!
Lesley Austin says
Voted for you, Ginny, with great pleasure!
Meg says
Yes, my Betsy (age two) always covers her face with makeup and markers when I’m not looking. Sometimes I’ll do anything for a few uninterrupted minutes! And I voted. Good luck!
Ginny says
I know–I take what I can get! Thanks for voting!

Ginny says
Thank you, Leah!!

I love the photo sequence– is that a moment when you grab the camera to take a picture in order to calm everyone down first?
Ginny says
I don’t even bat an eyelash when she marks her face and body up with markers anymore! It’s just so Beatrix. Now paint all over the place? That’s a bit harder to deal with!!
Taryn Kae Wilson @ Wooly Moss Roots says
Ginny,
Okay, I just went over and voted for you and you’re at number 2! 🙂
Love,
Taryn
Ginny says
Thank you, Taryn!! I really appreciate it!

Never dull moment at your house 🙂
Lisa G. says
Oh my gosh!! I’m not sure she’d suit as a brunette. 😀
Ginny says
I know! She has Jonny’s coloring though, and I’ve wondered if her hair might darken with age…We’ll see!
Veronika says
My Vote = GINNY! 🙂
Ginny says
Thank you, Veronika!!!
Jarka says
voted for you 🙂 …love the photos 😀 – painting on yourself is fun! I remember putting blue and purple paint all over my hands and then making hand-prints on the paper – and that was in high school with the ink they use to print newspaper – my hands were blue for a week 😀 – I guess you never really grow out of this 😀
Ginny says
Jarka, you sound just like Beatrix!! Thanks for voting!
Mary Beth says
I voted too! Good luck! You’re currently third!
Ginny says
Thank you Mary Beth!! So exciting!!
Hullabaloo Homestead says
I remember that wig on Gabe! What to do with these wacky Four year old children of ours? They are quite something. I guess we just love them as much as we can as the little people they are. And hope that they outgrow a thing or two by the time they are grown!
:)Lisa
Ginny says
We’ve got some awfully funny pictures of kids wearing that wig over the years! als0-Four is such a mix of fun and trouble!

Voted! I hope you win!
Ginny says
Thank you, Michelle!

I voted for you!!!:) I’ve said it once (or twice) before and I will say it again- I love Beatrix. She would fit right in around here! xoxo

Thanks Cary! You better watch it, I may drop her off at your house someday… 🙂

Oh, my, you made me laugh today! I just love the uninhibited spirit of children. (BTW, just voted for you – your blog is positively delightful.)
Ginny says
Thanks, Lynn–for the vote and the sweet compliment!
Maria says
Uff… but she has very nice blue eyes. Especially in the first picture. 🙂
Rachel says
Voted! It really was quick and easy! I hope you win!
Ginny says
Thanks Rachel!
Kristen says
I once painted my face like an Native American (although we politically incorrectly called them Indians then, but it was the 80’s what did we know 🙂 ) with Mary Kay samples someone gave my mom. That was fun.
Ginny says
Ha! I am sure it was.
Striving for Simple says
Oh dear…. we have these episodes at our house too. Funny how washable marker is so difficult to wash off!
Ginny says
Yes, it takes days to get it off! I keep meaning to pack up all the markers. I don’t know why I haven’t yet.
Traci says
And take note of the “mommy coping technique” of grabbing the camera instead of throttling said child. 🙂
Ginny says
Well, she’s colored herself so many many dozens of times, that I don’t get upset when it’s just her body that gets colored! Marker messes are easier to deal with than paint messes! Still–grabbing the camera is always a good rule of thumb in these situations. It will be a lot of fun to look at all the crazy Beatrix photos with her one day.
meghann says
Oh my goodness…is that marker?
Julia used to paint all over her face whenever we had paints out. I think marker might be worse. Or better, I suppose, depending on whether you are the child or the mama… xo
Ginny says
yep! marker is definitely harder to remove from the child–but I prefer marker messes to paint messes! The paint gets everywhere!
