Sunday Sweater pattern release

I am that girl who ducked out of taking speech and communication in college by changing my major so many times that the class got overlooked by my adviser.  Calculus?  Organic Chemistry?  Those were fun, but public speaking was my biggest nightmare.  For some reason releasing this pattern has my stomach feeling exactly how it did on the few occasions when I was forced to speak in front of a class.  I entered it into the Ravelry database on Saturday night just before I went to bed, which was a bit of a mistake because then I found it hard to sleep.  As of right now, my Sunday Sweater is in the top 20 “hot right now” patterns on Ravelry (go to the main patterns page, look for the “hot right now” box, then click on top 20.  Sunday Sweater is hanging out there at the bottom.)  I am not sure what qualified it, or what is keeping it there, but I think that if you hop over and favorite it (or better yet, add it to your queue!) that may help it stay there.  Of course it being in the top twenty makes me even more nervous.  Why is it there?  How long will it stay?  Who knows.  I am just pleased that it’s out there and that some of you like it!  I am going to step away from the computer now, pick up my needles, work on something that is NOT a Sunday Sweater, and try to relax and remind myself that this is just a knitting pattern.

Thank you for encouraging me!  In my little world, this really is a big deal and I appreciate you all so much (and now I am going to cry!)

(And in case it isn’t clear in the post, HERE is the link to my Sunday Sweater on Ravelry.)

p.s.  A huge thank you to my test knitters:  Grace, Mackenzie, and Katherine!  And a big thank you to all the friends who read through the pattern for me and gave me advice!

Edited Monday morning to add:  Sunday Sweater is at number 9 now!!  You guys are so awesome!

  10. Meryl says:

Alright–now one for the boys next! Kidding…mostly!

Very well done–this is so gorgeous that I may have to find a small lady to knit one for.

  11. Emma says:

We are casting on over here! Great job. Love your new layout too!

  12. Sara says:

It’s beautiful..congratulations! Unfortunately I have yet to learn to knit. I guess too much time spent sewing! I laughed reading about the public speaking classes. I was required to take one for my nursing major. It was the last class I took. We had to do a total of 3 speeches and I skipped the last one. I figured out that my grade would still be a B if I skipped…so I did, and it felt so good! Don’t ever tell my daughters though!

  13. Andee says:

You deserve to be #1 on the list. Your posts and yarn along give me so much inspiration to all of us knitters. Plus your sweater is stunning. I hope you make millions of dollars selling the pattern! You deserve every penny. See you Wednesday for the yarn along.

  14. Amy Caroline says:

Amazingly lovely! I can’t wait to cast on! I promised my two boys sweaters this year, but as soon as those are done I am making this one for my 6 year old. She will love it! And maybe a matching one for her 2 year old sister! I love the lace pattern and the sleeves are so sweet. I am excited! Thank you!

  15. Jennifer says:

Thank you! I’ve been anticipating this project since you first showed it off! Just purchased it and can’t wait to get busy knitting.

    Thank you, thank you!

  16. Amy says:

Looks great! I can’t wait to cast on for my girls. Thank you!

  17. Rachel says:

Gorgeous! I have been looking for a pattern for my DD (I was beginning to think I would have to stop being lazy and make my own LOL) and this looks like a winner!

  18. Ginny – I am so very, very PROUD of you!! I am still debating over my yarn choices but I can’t wait to start on this. Thank you, again, for your kindness and amazing work!! You deserve it all – and then some!! All my love heading you way <3 <3 <3

  19. amy says:

The pattern is beautiful, as are the sweaters. I just bought my copy and am delighted to add it to my list of Christmas knitting. I know three potential recipients right away. I hope that you continue to work on simple, yet beautiful designs.

I’d like to wear the sweater myself. Perhaps when I get some time, I’ll size it up for me. Great work, Ginny.

  20. Peggy says:

Your sweater is beautiful. May I recommend Toastmasters? Its different than Speech 101, I promise.

  21. Barbara says:

Ginny, I bought the pattern. Yeah! Then I realized it probably won’t fit my daughter (I didn’t even look to see what size(s) it was! Duh!) What size did you knit Lark and what size does she wear off the rack?

    • Ginny says:

I knit the 6/7 for Lark. She wears a size 7 off the rack. What size is your daughter? Adding one size up to the pattern wouldn’t be difficult. The cast on and initial instructions would follow the size 6/7. Email me and we’ll come up with a plan!

  22. Steph says:

It’s so pretty! My girls both want one! :)

  23. Melanie says:

Congratulations! I just bought it and am looking forward to making it for my little girl.

  24. Nadja says:

Hooray! Just noticed that it is indeed for worsted weight! I was glancing at the baby sizes and thought it was for dk! And I think that there might just be enough of that berry-colored Cestari in the stash to make one for Gemma. That would be perfect!

  25. Congratulations! Adding it to my favorites right now! :)

  26. Amanda says:

    Congratulations! It is BEAUTIFUL!

  27. Nadja says:

Wow, Ginny! Your blog is looking like an online magazine! Beautiful! And congratulations!
And I love your sweater pattern and am going off to purchase the pattern right now, regardless of the fact that I have no dk weight yarn on hand at the moment and will have to wait a while before I can cast on!

  28. eve says:

    congratulations!

  29. mistea says:

    Congratulations. The sweater is Beautiful.

  30. moey says:

Yes! It’s beautiful, and how exciting for you. Well, and for me. :) Purchased it at 12:02am. Hopefully to have it on the needles this week. :) Thank you. My girls will love it.

  31. Lisa says:

    Ginny!!
I am so excited for you. The sweater is beautiful and the blog looks great. I think this is a HUGE deal….

    Lisa

  32. Tracey says:

First I must say that I love the new look you have created here in your space, very pretty!
Next I hope you cried happy tears. The pattern you developed is an awesome one, the
notes and attention to detail are spot on and I am casting a Sunday Sweater on today for
the wee one in my life. Now if I can just get some cooler weather to blow so it will be sweater
    weather.

  33. Anne says:

Great job! You should feel very proud.

P.S. I know what you meaning about public speaking vs. a good, bury your nose in the book science course. Give me a quiet lab to work in every day… just don’t make me talk about me results in public.

  34. Katrina says:

Your pattern is amazing! It is well written and very comprehensive-truly a great pattern for beginners and avid knitters alike! There are so many small details included–it is a pattern that I will be keeping on the needles at all times! You did very well, Ginny! I can’t wait to see what the next pattern is!

  35. Cirila Cerilo says:

i too am that girl – i would drop classes after i would find out that i had to do a presentation. i always thought i was the only one… i do love your sweater! it goes beyond the scarves and hats that i usually make, but i’m going to see if i can make it. my daughter would love it!

  36. Christina says:

Congratulations! I just went into my Ravelry account and fav’d it ! I cannot wait to get started on it. I just have to find a little one to knit it for. :) Love the new layout as well!

  37. Tanya says:

haha love this post! It was so nerve wracking and exciting putting a pattern out there! I still regularly check mine to see how many faves!

I love yours btw!! *adds to queue*

  38. San says:

I have just bought this pattern! I can’t wait to find some lovely wool and cast on for Pip, although i’ll have to finish my current knitting project for said girl!! I think this lovely cardi will be part of her birthday present, so i have until December 23rd to finish it!!

You are one very clever mama, you must have an amazing math brain to sort out such a design.

Hugs to you for sharing such a talented piece of work.

    San xxx

  39. Wendy says:

I am so that girl (I took Spanish to avoid speech, and was the last class that was allowed to do so). I have a recurring nightmare in which I’m told that I have to go back for a quarter of college to complete my degree, and one of the classes I have to take involves public speaking. I’m always so thankful when I wake up!

Anyways, congratulations on releasing your first pattern–it’s lovely! Enjoy the top 20 ride! Way to go!

  40. It IS a big deal, and a big achievement. You must allow yourself to feel proud for bringing something positive to other people, something that will bring us pleasure to make (and keep our little girls cosy!) x

  45. Andréann says:

I’m favoriting it and adding it to my queue as well. It’s a lovely sweater and one day I will have the courage/confidence to take a next step in my knitting.
