I believe that when you slow down and savor the small things, you don’t have to wish for a different life; you can discover beauty in the life you already have. {Find out more here...}

My first time commenting – I made your shepherd’s pie yesterday and it is delicious! Followed recipe exactly and it will be a keeper. Apple cider vinegar added lots of flavor.
Back to lurker-dom. I enjoy reading about your family’s adventures and really like your blog.

We love shepherd’s pie in our house as well. I don’t add the veggies as my kids/husband are not big on veggies in a casserole. My recipe is a bit simpler than yours. I cook onions, garlic & mushrooms in a bit of olive oil, then add beef to brown. Remove that & add some water & make a brown gravy. I use the brown gravy & meat for the filling & then cover with mashed potatoes & cheese. My family is not big on the tomato sauce either that’s why I substituted the brown gravy. I would love to read how other’s make their shepherd’s pies as I’m sure there are as many recipes as there are families!! It’s cold here this morning, which makes me excited for dinners as I bring out all my “winter” meals!!! Can’t wait!!! One day when I’m not cooking for kids I would love to try your recipe…it sounds yummy!!!

I do ♥ shepherd’s pie…I just looked up where the name originated from and found out that it was often made with lamb!

Your photographs are always so serene and artistic…beautiful wooden table, spoon and board that the pie is sitting on…warm brown top of the pie!

Funny story about men, dating, and their stomaches:
I was young and dating a man who was the baby of eight… He had lived on a farm and I am sure had a momma who made everything from scratch…
We were to have a date night after a long day of boating… If I remember correctly we were guiding the Hudson River.
I was going to impress him with his favorite meal… Shepard’s pie.
By the time I got to the market and purchased the ingredients… there was going to be no time to peel, boil, and mash potatoes…
I continued, hurriedly, home with my purchase and got to work.
He arrived…
We sat down to dinner…
He took the first bite of pie, “Are these boxed potatoes?”
I replied, “I didn’t have time to make potatoes.”
He said, “I cannot believe you used box potatoes for Shepherd’s pie…)
I would have done better to just serve the salad.
That relationship was over…. OOOOPS!
It is okay, God had other plans for my life. Andy, may he rest in peace, taught me perfection cannot be rushed… and don’t sway from the norm of “favorite” dishes!
You would think I had learned my lesson… NO… I did the same thing with my now husband and “chicken burgers”…. I guess it was my way of weeding out the unforgiving men. LOL.
12 years and 5 children later… my husband knows he is the winner of “scratch” pies and “perfect” burgers.
Thanks, Ginny!
I needed the walk down memory lane. I am thinking I need to make a pie!
