~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I love both my knitting and my book this week. I am working on a shawl for a friend and the pattern is simple enough that I can work on it throughout the day. I won’t have enough yarn to make it as big as the pattern calls for, but there is a recipe for making either a smaller or larger shawl, so I can just downsize a bit. I love the color and wish this photo did a better job portraying it.
I first saw A Girl of the Limberlost at a gift shop in Shenandoah National Forest, and recently bought a copy of it. Have any of you read anything by Gene Stratton Porter? I love the way she combines fiction with nature in this book and will certainly be seeking out more of her work. The heroine of the story is a young lady named Elnora who pays her way through school by gathering and selling moths in the forest and swamp near her home. It’s a bit of a Cinderella story and who doesn’t love those? I have hardly been able to put the book down since I started reading it last week. It’s considered a classic, but is definitely an easy read.

Ginny, I just wanted you to know I’ve been so blessed by your yarn alongs! Seriously. I’ve been impatiently waiting the referral of our little babe and then Lori’s pockets post came, and now I found Gina shared a post about knitting squares for orphan blankets. I don’t think I would have found either of these beautiful blogs but through this, so thanks for blessing my day friend!

I can’t believe you picked up Girl of the Limberlost – my mom introduced me to that book when I was little (it was her favourite book growing up) and she would read it to me. I have never run into anyone else who knew about it. Mom still has her original copy from the 50’s. Very cool 🙂 And you’re right, it’s a classic but easy read — who doesn’t love a good Cinderella story?!

Sister, we’re wearing the same shoes! Same color even. They are. My favorite. My knitting, however, is a purple cowl.

You MUST read Keeper of the Bees — a beautifully-woven tale filled with natural history! It will be especially meaningful to you in light of your own new adventure!

That will be a beautiful shawl! I have been spending more time in my garden rows than on my knitted rows these days, but I do have a sweater in progress for my toddler to share!

I love all of Gene Stratton Porter’s books, innocent as they are. I have inherited copies of many of them.

We love Laddie by Gene Stratton Porter. I want to be Little Sister with a rooster on my shoulder, or ceremoniously giving him a sermon.

I loved Girl of the Limberlost… must be about 30 years ago that I read it. One of those classic American girl’s books.

That is a lovely picture Ginny. I love all it shows: flowers, knitting, book, shoes, wood, soil…
I prepared a little tutorial today on how to make an upcycled cover for dpds from an old bike tire. No more lost stitches on my “on the go-projects” yeah!
Happy Knitting!
