I’ve been sewing for practically three days straight and I have almost nothing to show for it. I have become well acquainted with my seam ripper and it has been sad. Somehow, Larkspur’s birthday dress did get finished. I am not going to dwell on the hours I spent making it and the fact that really, it’s just a plain boring dress, and not a pattern I would ever sew again. Lark chose the fabric and she is mostly happy with the dress. I am not surprising her with it as she made it clear that her birthday dress is not to be one of her presents, but what she wears while opening presents. The second sewing project that has been occupying me is more complicated, and won’t be ready for Lark’s birthday tomorrow. She doesn’t mind waiting.
A fox visited our compost bins today making me wish once again that I owned a good zoom lens. We’ll just have to make do with the couple of photos I took through the window and then cropped. Our neighbor claims he saw a baby fox on the property adjacent ours recently. Where are your babies mama? We want to meet them.
Back to the sewing machine. Bleh.
p.s. Today Beatrix chose red marker to decorate her face. Some of the photos I took of her are really creepy looking. I won’t burden you with them.

what is it about kids and markers???? My grandson colored his little brother’s ears black with marker—and then they both wrote all over each other’s bellies. (Honestly, I laughed til I cried–but my daughter said it was awful trying to get off!)
We have a fox that has visited us near our garden beds. What fun to know that spring is happening in little thickets just like in Bambi. We are traveling to Amherst County Virginia this weekend for our spring break – to my folks’ farm. There will be lambs and sheep shearing and possibly a few kids born (goats)! Many blessings this week. You are such a wonderful mama to sew so determiningly (a word?)

It has been years since we saw a fox, in fact our younger children have never seen one as they do not live in Tasmania

Foxes are pretty, aren’t they?
What a cute fox, so pretty. Larkspur sounds like my oldest, except I can’t sew, so I wouldn’t make her dress. My kids color themselves with markers all the time. Good thing we keep washable ones in the house.
But those compost bins! Can you tell us about them? They’re beautiful! And easy access—for man and beast! I wish I could be part of your garden-along, but our gardens are still blanketed by snow.
Does tapping a maple tree count?

Not only his face but his feet too. So funny! That girl sure keeps you busy but what FUN memories for you! LOVE the fox photos, how cool is that!

Isn’t that fox gorgeous! I saw one running across the country behind our house a few months ago. I was so excited. That was the first and only time I’ve ever seen a fox in ‘real life’.

2. Has your daughter ever read the book “Purple, green and yellow” by Robert Munsch? You might want to pre-read it, but every time you show a picture of her painted face, I think of that book.

be careful of foxes! they’re quick. I interned at a nature center in college & caged ones snatched ducks & chickens quick & made them DISAPPEAR! Quickly! I don’t think they harm children, but small animals, etc.

Wow, that is a beautiful, gigantic fox! I only witness baby foxes by me, and adults that look scraggly and unwell. This one’s a beauty!

Don’t be sad. I sew plenty of plain boring dresses. Right now I am sewing an apron dress with fairy fabric, quite colorful and fancy, and I am wishing it was something more plain and simple.

He is very cute – I try to forget they would snatch up a beloved kitty in a trice.

We had a fox that used to visit our compost. He really chowed down on old pumpkins. It was right outside our window and he would stay for a good amount of time. We really enjoyed him/her. Ours was a gray fox, yours is a red fox. Happy Birthday Larkspur!! We have a birthday boy turning 6 on the 12th.
Foxes are so beautiful, and it’s good you don’t have chickens for them to hassle so you can just enjoy their presence. Lark’s sweater is very pretty by the way, especially the yellow.
