Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

I completed a project!  It may have been a small one, but it feels like a big deal!  I am squeezing knitting in during nursing sessions here and there, and I am really thrilled with the way these longies turned out.  You can read my Ravelry notes, for details.  I am hoping that these fit Silas for at least a few months.  Right now they are big enough that I can fold the waist band over.  Please forgive the extra photos, but I felt that the situation warranted them.  As far as reading goes, just as fast as I picked up In Defense of Food, I put it down in favor of yet another Willa Cather, The Professor’s House .  I am a bit addicted to her writing, and while I thought I was ready for a break, it seems that I am going to keep reading through her books for awhile.  There is something comforting to me in her quiet style.  I chose to include the books I have been reading to my girls in my photo though, because more than anything I have been reading poetry to them.  We have started a poetry after breakfast routine and they love it.  We read from Gyo Fujikawa’s edition of Mother Goose, and also Robert Louis Stevenson’s A Child’s Garden of Verses illustrated by her as well.  Talking Like the Rain is another favorite.  Some of Robert Louis Stevenson’s poems are included, and my girls think it’s hilarious to request that I read the same poem in both this book and A Child’s Garden of Verses.
And I also want to update on the Knit for Japan project.  The last photo above is of today’s mail!!  The hats and other knitted objects are pouring in.  Thank you all so much!!!  If you haven’t mailed your package to me yet, DON’T!  It will reach me too late.  But, it’s not too late to mail them to Betsy.  Her deadline is August 1st, so if you still need to get your hat in the mail, email me and I will send you her mailing address.
Below is a linky list if you’d like to add a link to your own Yarn Along photo.
