Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a single photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

This week I am mostly working to finish Larkspur’s sweater, and I am almost there.  But, you’ve all seen that one enough!  Keats and I have had many a discussion over the past few weeks about his birthday sweater and we finally came up with something that he likes, and I am capable of.  He likes the basic style of the sweater that I knit for Seth’s birthday, but he requested a cable, straight down the middle.  I was unsure I could do it, but then found an owl cable that fits with the pattern perfectly.  The problem I see is that this sweater is knit topdown, and then I will come back and pick up stitches for the neck, which will be a basic rolled neck.  I am afraid that when I pick up stitches across the top of that cable section, it will look messy.  Should I rip back and knit a plain row before starting the cable so I have plain stitches to pick up?  It wouldn’t be a big deal to do so at this point.  It’s hard to know what to do when I don’t have much cable experience at all, and I am improvising this part of the pattern.  I hope that this is going to work, and I would truly appreciate any advice from some of you more experienced knitters.
Oh, and the yarn is Beaverslide’s Fisherman weight merino in Big Sky Blue (which by the way is more the color in my picture I think, than in theirs.  It’s a lovely deep blue grey, not the bright greenish blue that it appears to be on their website.)  I have to say I think this may be my new favorite yarn.  It is soft without feeling fragile, and feels like it is going to wear really well.  I am sort of in love with it.
And reading!  I almost forgot.  I am reading Jane Austen’s Persuasion.  I haven’t read any Austen with the exception of Pride and Prejudice, which I enjoyed. This year, I am resolving to read at least a couple of her books.  I must admit, I am sure that much of the detail of the story is escaping my tired brain, but hopefully that won’t matter too much in the end!
***And just a little knitting news:  Julie at This Cosy Life has organized a nice way to swap handknit or crocheted items that are no longer needed or that didn’t work out.  She has set up a Flickr group HERE if you are interested in learning more or participating!***
Below is a linky list if you’d like to add a link to your own Yarn Along photo.
