Barn Cats

Barn Cats-12
So, back when I used to trap feral cats for folks, I also took pictures.  In fact I really liked taking pictures of feral cats because it posed a challenge.  Ferals do not like strange people getting close to them, making photographing them difficult.

The particular colony featured in these photos was cared for by an elderly couple.  With the help of a volunteer, I trapped them, transported them to be spayed, neutered, and vaccinated, recuperated them after surgery, and then released them back on the farm.  I believe there were about thirty cats in this colony.

A few weeks later, in order to take pictures of them, I put out some stinky fishy cat food and then layed down in the grass a few feet away as still as I could, and waited.

This group of cats ended up being on the cover of a fundraising calendar (the group photo in black and white), I think they must have occupied about half of the months inside, and my photos of them have even been used in Alley Cat Allies’ newsletter, including the cover of this one.

My husband will be the first to tell you that I no longer “cat” around.  But it’s fun to look back at the pictures.  So forgive me while I dip in to my past and take a walk down feral cat lane.

I don’t know if I prefer the color or the black and white.  This was a beautiful group of cats.

All of these photos are available in both color and black and white in my Etsy store.  While all of my listings are for 5 x 7s, I can make custom listings for 8 x 10s.  And because I’ve been asked:  I do not print my own photographs.  All prints that I sell are printed in a professional lab, and will look just as good, but probably better than they do on your computer screen, when printed.
