I finally made another Oliver + S bubble dress. I wrote about the first one a couple of weeks ago. I really loved the fabric I used for that one, but the bodice was too loose, so I knew I wanted to try making another with a couple of minor changes. This time I used the pattern for the size three bodice (rather than size four as I did last time), added a bit of length to it, and then used the size four skirt as I did before. This did the trick. The new dress fits Larkspur much better than the other one. She is long and skinny so store bought dresses rarely fit her well. Always either too wide or too short. I did come to a bit of a realization while making this dress. I don’t love to sew right now. I love the possibilities that sewing offers; I love the finished project. But, I don’t love the process. That may change when Jonny gets my studio space finished (that is after the raised garden beds and the chicken coop get finished…this is the coop that never ends, it just goes on and on my friends 😉 and I am not lugging everything to and from my kitchen table late at night. For now, I prefer knitting to sewing, I think. With knitting I enjoy the process and the final product, even though it takes a bit longer to get results (I am not a quick knitter). All I have to do is grab my project out of my knitting bag and I am ready to go. Much simpler and more relaxing as well. And, I can watch a movie with Jonny while I an knitting. Right now we are watching He Knew He Was Right, another BBC production. We love these things. Oh, and Jonny is reading Escape. He is totally freaked out by this book. I think it is even giving him nightmares. I am glad it is having that effect on him, rather than making him want another couple of wives 🙂

This is interesting to read because I'm learning to knit this summer, and recently I've decided I want to start sewing again too (I learned to sew from my Mom). I'll keep in mind what you all are saying about a designated space.Venessa, if you want to scrapbook without all the supplies clutter, try digital scrapbooking. You just need photo editing software and everything stays neatly on the computer. Google "digital scrapbooking" or just go to my favorite site: scrapgirls.com (I'm just a devoted fan. 🙂

So cute! I am still amazed you find the time! I feel like we are in survival mode with the new baby and I keep wondering "will this ever get easier?" I should know that it does, because I have done this so many times!I am going to call you soon to plan a visit and we would love you to visit when you pass through on you way to GA!Laura

Oh, I love, love, love Anthony Trollope! I have read the book, but not seen this presentation. I'll have to!You did a wonderful job on the dress. I agree with you. It is very hard to enjoy sewing without a sewing room….or at least a nice, designated space.

The dress is really cute. You are so talented! But like you, I enjoy knitting a whole lot better than sewing (I have a brand new sewing machine sitting in my linen closet and it will probably never be used left up to me.) I just tonight ordered yarn for three projects I want to do from KnitPicks. I used to think they were expensive until I checked a few other places. Yarn shops are out of the question and they want an arm and a leg for shipping. My two friends and I always seem to be able to get up an order above $50 and there's no shipping costs for orders larger than $50. I also ordered me some blocking boards. Are you on KnitPicks mailing list? Do you get their catalogs? I am a die hard KnitPicks lover. Their needles are a bit high but I love them. I use the interchangeable harmony needles, the cables are so flexible, they are a joy to use. I'm going to make something out of cashmere for myself, if it kills me (it's sold just up the road from me from California Cashmere at the cost of $22.50 and ounce, yikes!) But I will do it. One way or another, I will do it. For now I settle for baby alpaca when I can get it. I'm hoping KnitPicks will start carrying some luxury yarns. I'd love to have some 100% bamboo for a scarf I want to make. I think it goes for about $18 a skein. Now I have to wait until my order gets here. That's the longest span of time known to Man: the time between submitting the KnitPicks order and the time that it ends up in my Post Office box! But it beats driving over an hour to get to the nearest yarn shop and then pay their prices to boot. LOL

Love love love the dress! Wow, is it ever cute!Your experience with sewing is much like that of my scrapbooking. I can't be bothered to pull out all my stamps/papers/supplies to make a scrapbook page or just a few cards (where I will LOVE the result no matter what), as the process and clean-up is so not enjoyable!
